Announced way back in November of 2018, Disney+ will debut a series centered around Cassian Andor, the rebel spy last seen in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As is often the case with these Disney “Star Wars” properties, details are few and far between. Diego Luna will return as Cassian Andor. Alan Tudyk also returns as K-2SO, the Imperial droid-turned-wise-cracking-rebel accomplice.

Could we see an origin for the droid’s allegiance change and their subsequent friendship? It’s certainly possible.

Stephen Schiff is the showrunner for the series, with Tony Gilroy writing the pilot as well as directing multiple episodes.

Gilroy oversaw Rogue One reshoots from the director’s chair, so he’s no stranger to these characters and worlds. Rick Famuyiwa, who directed two episodes of The Madalorian Season One, is also in talks to helm an undisclosed number of episodes.

Disney’s remained tight lipped in regards to the plot, referring to it only as a ‘rousing spy thriller’. They’ve said that it will, “explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire”.

Their description suggests that we’ll see more of an anthology style show, highlighting various adventures throughout his years as a rebel spy. This would be opposed to a more streamlined through-plot similar to “The Mandalorian” for example.

It would also line-up with rumors that Disney’s looking at casting younger actors to play a 13 year old Cassian Andor, as well as his 9 year old sister.

A release date’s not confirmed, but the show starts shooting in Summer 2020. Check back to the site regularly for more information on the series.
