Halloween: Five Horror TV series to Watch

Slasher

Slasher is an anthology horror TV series that follows a different group of characters in each season. The first season is titled ‘The Executioner’ and was first released in 2016. It revolves around a woman moving back to her family home with her husband. It sounds straightforward at first but it isn’t. On the night of her birth, her parents lost theirs. Her return to the town threatens the safety of everyone and puts her on a course to uncover secrets about her family’s past. With the help of her parent’s killer, she realises the Executioner is using the seven deadly sins to pick their victim.

Playing the lead Sarah Bennett is Katie McGrath. People may recognise her as Morgana in BBC’s Merlin or as Lena Luthor in Supergirl. Brandon Jay McLaren, Steve Byer, Patrick Garrow and Dean McDermott also star. The series features several twists and a lot of killing. If you enjoy slasher movies then this is the show for you.

Season 2’s sub-title is Guilty Party. It revolves around ex-camp counsellors returning to their old campgrounds. Their plan is to bury their terrible secrets but, as always, a killer comes for vengeance. Unlike in the previous series, it’s harder to connect with most of the characters. They did something terrible in the past so you may find yourself slightly rooting for the killer. This is a staple in slasher stories, especially those of the 80s.

The cast includes Leslie Hope, Lovell Adams-Grey, Jim Watson, Christopher Jacot, Paulino Nunes, Ty Olsson, Joanne Vannicola and Sebastian Pigott. Marvel actors Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) and Jon McLaren (Guardians of the Galaxy video game) guest star.

Season 3’s sub-title is Soltice and 4 is Flesh & Blood. I’ve yet to catch up on these two seasons yet but season 4 is a Shudder exclusive. For those who don’t know, Shudder is a streaming service for horror movies and TV shows. I’m looking forward to making my way through the next two seasons of the show.
