#1 – The Conjuring 2
In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London.
There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home.
Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next targets of the malicious spirit.
The Conjuring 2 Official Synopsis
The Conjuring 2 sees the return of James Wan to the Director’s chair. It also sees the debut of Valak, the Marquis of Snakes, also known as The Nun.
The movie uses levity to soften the darkness that plagues not only the movie but also the Enfield house. One such scene is Patrick Wilson’s Ed serenading the Hodgson family with Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.
This entry centers around the Enfield Haunting, which has seen several adaptations not featuring the Warrens. Even though the Warrens are Demonologists, they can’t detect a presence in the house and believe Janet Hodgson to be a liar.
However, circumstances bring them to the house, and this is where they must battle not only Valak but also their own Demons. For Lorraine, she needs to come to terms with the idea of losing her husband after visions plague her showing his death.
There are several scenes where fear runs rampant for the audience. One of these is when Lorraine receives a visit from The Nun in her home. In the creepy sequence, Ed’s painting of The Nun plays a part in the reveal of the horrifying Demon.
Another fear-inducing scene is where Janet becomes stuck in her bedroom. Crosses cover her walls but the entity turns all of them upside down and attacks from the shadows.
The Conjuring 2 received a spin-off in the guise of The Nun but there’s also rumors a spin-off featuring The Crooked Man is in the works.
After six movies since 2013, The Conjuring series shows no signs of slowing down. The Conjuring 3 is in Production under the direction of Michael Chaves.
It sees the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as they tackle a court case where the defendant uses possession as an excuse for their actions.
Megan Ashley Brown and Mitchell Hogg are playing younger versions of the Warrens. It looks like the movie will be dabbling in flashbacks but what part they play in the story is unknown.
The Conjuring 3 releases on September 11, 2020.
