Spider-Man: Jumping from the Page to the Screen

Superior Spider-Man

Every Spider-Man is superior, right? Right? Well, not according to a particular Earth-616 version. In the main continuity, Otto Octavius is dying. In a last-ditch effort, he swaps bodies with Peter Parker and lets him die. With Doc Ock in Peter’s body, he learns about responsibility and being better.

This makes him want to take up the mantle of Spider-Man. However, his ego makes him believe he can better than Peter Parker ever was. He will be the Superior Spider-Man. This is depicted in the Superior Spider-Man comic series.

His costume is a red and black version of the classic with mechanical legs that serve as a reminder of Spider-Man’s Civil War days.

Seeing a villain in Peter’s body is interesting, especially since this is the main version of the hero. It’s a story that forces Otto to see who he could have been if he didn’t go down his villain route and serves as a redemption for him.

He becomes one of the major players of the Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon comic arcs.

The Superior Spider-Man appearing in Insomniac’s universe is always an idea. With Otto dying in that universe, he could try to save himself one last time by switching bodies. The Spider-Verse movies could use him, and would make a compelling story with it.

However, since the movie follows Miles Morales as the hero, it adds a new layer to the story. Miles can see an alternate version of his mentor infused with one of the first villains he faced. Since Miles is used to a gender-swapped Doc Ock, it’d be intriguing to see if he guesses who the Superior Spider-Man is.

The Superior Spider-Man is a controversial move since he replaced the original for a while but he’d be a nice addition to the small or big screen in a multiverse story.
