Spider-Man: Jumping from the Page to the Screen

Paviitr Prabhakar

What if Peter Parker wasn’t born in America? What if Peter Park is Indian? That is the crux of our next pick. Pavitr Prabhakar hails from Earth-50101 and is born in India. He moves to Mumbai with his Aunt Maya and Uncle Bhim where life doesn’t get better for him.

He is bullied and realises his uncle struggles to pay for everything. The only bright spot in his life is a girl in his class called Meera. He gets his powers from an ancient yogi rather than a spider bite.

His origin is similar to 616 Peter in that his uncle is killed when Pavitr refuses to help.

Pavitr’s main villain is Nalin Oberoi who uses an amulet to summon a demon that possesses him. He tries to open up a portal to unleash more but it puts him in the crosshairs of the new Spider-Man. Doc Ock is also a villain in this continuity and is created by Nalin.

Although, this Doc Ock is also an uneasy ally for Spider-Man. Pavitr’s costume is the classic Spider-Man costume on top but the bottom is different. He wears traditional Indian trousers with a red sash.

Bringing in Pavitr expands the diversity of the Spider-Man universe but it does more than that. Pavitr is a good inclusion in the Spider-Verse movie and helps to open up a new world. A live-action version is certainly something that would be nice to see.

Even if it’s during a multiverse movie or a series focusing on other versions of Spider-Man. Pavitr’s mythology is imbued more in the supernatural and it conveys a different side to the Spider-universe.
