Spider-Man: Jumping from the Page to the Screen

Spiders-Man

No, it isn’t a typo. There actually is a character called Spiders-Man. This is a version of Peter Parker with a horrifying twist. When a young Peter and Gwen Stacy visit Horizon Labs the former falls into a colony of radioactive spiders.

The spiders devour Peter Parker while draining his consciousness. With Peter’s consciousness inside them, the spiders forma hive mind and believe they are the man they killed. They decide to help their city, Cruel York, by donning the classic Spider-Man suit and adopting the name Spiders-Man.

Gwen Stacy believes Peter is still in there and begs for him to return to Horizon labs. However, the spiders are against it and run away. They team-up with alternate Earth Norman Osborne, who is also a Spider-Man.

The duo are more antagonistic than the other versions.

Spiders-Man uses a portal to send parts of himself to different Earths. There, he spies on the other Spider-people and assists Norman Osborne in exacting their revenge on Otto Octavius, better known on Earth-616 as the Superior Spider-Man.

Spiders-Man is an interesting concept. It’s certainly a way to show Peter Parker a darker reflection of himself without using the symbiote. The character is a good way to dip into the horror side of the Spider universe.

Seeing Spiders-Man in a video game, especially as an uneasy alliance, seems a fun idea.

Depending on how it’s done, Spiders-Man might be too scary for a live-action appearance. An animation version in a Spider-Verse sequel could be interesting. It lets Miles meet a darker version of his hero.
