When Deadpool 2 was in its early stages, Ryan Reynolds lobbied hard for Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of Wolverine one last time. The two characters have a long history in the comics, and it would be great to see the two mutants encounter each other in the films as well. Unfortunately, Jackman declined multiple times. Deadpool 2 still faired well, but there is no denying that Wolverines absence was felt.

When the film starts we see Wade Wilson playing with a music box featuring Wolverine the last time we saw him in Logan, skewered to a rock by a branch. Wilson takes a minute to criticize how Deadpool paved the way for Logan to carry an R-rating. In another scene, Deadpool crashes into a kitchen where a boy is eating cereal, Wolverine cereal. Wade is apparently feeling the withdraw.

It wasn’t until the credits rolled on Deadpool 2 that we got the best scene featuring the adamantium-clawed mutant. Deadpool uses Cable’s recently-repaired time machine to go back and fix a few errors in the timeline. He goes back to the end of X-Men Origins: Wolverine to kill his former self off, sparing Wolverine and fans the shame of getting to know the abomination that was the end of that film.

The scene was done using archived footage from the original film and utilizing a few great editing techniques.  What makes the moment truly great, is the fact that Wolverine looks confused as Deadpool steps out from behind the door, introduces himself, and states that he is just fixing the timeline. It is a great moment and one that many fans cheered for in theaters.
