17 Amazing Cameos You Didn’t See Coming in ‘Deadpool 2’

6. IRENE MERRYWEATHER

Irene Merryweather Cable

This was a really brief cameo, but when Firefist was throwing his temper tantrum you could hear a news reporter refer to herself as Irene Merryweather. She also showed up quickly riding in the helicopter that killed Shatterstar.

First appearing in Cable #48 (created by James Robinson and Jose Ladronn) Merryweather was a long-time love interest of Cable in the comics. She worked for The Inquiring Eye, which was a tabloid newspaper.

Cable saved her life while she was trying to dig up dirt on the Hellfire Club. He hired her to be his biographer. She went on to work for The Daily Bugle as well. She served as Cable’s connection to the world and also helped him run his own country once. Merryweather’s life was cut short in the comics when Deadpool was manipulated into assassinating her by Stryfe, Cable’s evil clone.

Although her appearance in the film was brief, she is yet another character that could have a larger role to play in the future of the franchise.
