10. CABLE’S FAMILY

Deadpool 2 gave us a brief glimpse into Cable’s motivation. He travels back in time to take out Firefist (Julian Dennison) before he grows into a powerful mutant villain who kills his family in the future. Near the end of the film, Cable mentions that his daughter’s name was Hope (Islie Hirvonen).

In the comics, his adopted daughter also had the same name. In time she becomes Hope Summers. When mutants everywhere were depowered, Hope was the first new mutant born in years. Her debut came in X-Men #205 and showed us that many different competing factions wanted Hope for themselves. Cable was forced to take the child into the future, where he raised her to become a great hero.

Cable’s wife was portrayed by Hayley Sales in the movie. In the comics, Cable had two wives. Both of them died early in life. His first wife appeared in Cable #1 and died in battle. After adopting Hope, Cable married someone named Hope in Cable #7, and the two raised young Hope together. When elder Hope died, Cable renamed young Hope in her honor.
