There are three Star Wars movies on Disney’s upcoming schedule: 16 December 2022, 20 December 2024 and 18 December 2026. Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that this will not be a trilogy, but rather a new series of interconnected films.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones) departed the project last October to put more focus on their Netflix deal. A lot of fans turned against the duo following the final GoT season, so maybe this played a part in their stepping down. No word yet on who could be replacing them.

The latest rumor indicates that this new series could take place in a time period of Star Wars being referred to as the High Republic era. If true, this would set the new films approximately 400 years before the Skywalker Saga.

Fans were hoping to see the Old Republic timeline on screen, but this new period is something we’ve seen very little of in canon, and would bring something fresh to the universe.

Don’t expect to see many characters from the Skywalker films; only a select few were alive at the time of High Republic. One wise old Jedi still alive was none other than Yoda himself. He would’ve been around 500 years old during the time these films take place.

Although going by the rules laid down by The Mandalorian for this species, this would make him the equivalent of a teenager. Could we see him drinking too much and arguing with his parents? Doubtful, but hopefully we will get something in the way of a confirmation soon.
