‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ and The Top 10 Greatest Trilogies of All-Time

6. Mission: Impossible (the 2010s)

Score: 333.7

The number 6 spot is held firmly by Mission Impossible’s last three outings. Those Rotten Tomatoes ratings for Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, and Fallout are the key here. In fact, their average of 94.3 is only beaten by a trilogy higher in the Top 10.

The individual scores of the Mission Impossible films show that M: I is a big contender and a brilliantly-made film franchise. Much like the previous entry on the list, the third film in this trilogy is also the best. The 2010s Missions Impossible have found a style that works superbly for them. The dedication to practical effects and stunts is a core part of the films and what makes them stand out in an increasingly CGI filled blockbuster world. They provide a level of tension that we just don’t feel when we know the actor is in front of a green screen.

A lot of credit is given to franchises like Marvel for their excellent casting abilities, but Mission Impossible is another one that excels there. Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson have all been excellent additions to the series. Fallout’s new characters are also superb and cast perfectly.  Simon Pegg’s progressively more important Benji (who first featured in MI:3) is another reason why the recent outings have clicked so well. In fact, Simon Pegg is one of only two actors to feature in two trilogies on this list. You can already probably guess the other.
