#4 – The Husbands of River Song (2015)

The Husbands of River Song is an old-style romp that sees the return of Alex Kingston’s River Song and the introduction of Matt Lucas’s Nardole. The Doctor’s current face (Peter Capaldi) isn’t known to River Song, which leads to hilarious conclusions.

The premise of the story sees River Song trying to retrieve a Diamond from a Warlord by marrying him then looking for a Surgeon to extract it from his head.

However, her plans goes awry when The Doctor turns up and the two end up on an adventure to get rid of the Diamond.

Seeing Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston on-screen together is a treat and the moment when River Song realizes The Doctor has been with her all along (and after that impassioned speech) tugs at the heartstrings.

As a finale to the story of River Song, it wraps everything up with a neat bow while starting The Doctor on a new journey of self-transformation after losing his memory of Clara.
