#2 –  The Time of the Doctor (2013)

“And now it’s time for one last bow // Like all your other selves // Eleven’s hour is over now // The clock is striking twelve’s.”

The Time of the Doctor was the ending of Matt Smith’s tenure as The Doctor. He was called to a planet where a distress call was broadcast for all to hear.

Soon, all of The Doctor’s foes and friends gathered around the planet. Sadly for The Doctor it wasn’t just any planet.

He was standing in Trenzalore, the location where he was supposed to die for good.

The Doctor allied himself with The Silence (Who?) and the Papal Mainframe. It also explains Series Five and Six’s ultimate villains who tried to kill The Doctor so silence would fall.

It turns out though, The Doctor was never the person they had to worry about.

Clara Oswald was the one who spoke to the owner’s of the distress signal, and so the Time Lords knew their only chance of survival was to give The Doctor a new set of regenerations.

The 11th Doctor’s finale was bittersweet as it gave him and Clara many emotive moments and completed a story that was set up in Matt Smith’s first episode.

Everything we wanted to know about The Silence and why they wanted The Doctor dead was explained.

We also got to see an explosive regeneration, a surprise cameo from Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and the abrupt introduction of the 12th Doctor.
